[Pepper's letter appears late in the month, written in what is definitely her handwriting, but definitely a smoother, more even version of her handwriting, as if the writer is calmer and more composed when putting pen to paper than the seventeen-year-old has ever been.]

Yes, I know our name is Pepper, but we probably wouldn’t listen any other way. We only really listen to dad when he calls us that, even if we hate it. Probably because we hate it. So, hi, by the way.

Things are confusing right now for us. Gene and Tony will always be some kind of confusing, but this is about as bad as it gets with them. It’s okay to be angry. It’s also okay to be hurt that Tony’s not with you. That’s going to hurt for a while, longer than you expect, and longer than you’re angry. I know that this won’t mean much, but it’s an important thing to learn that Tony Stark is not the beginning and end of the world. Don’t forget that he was your best friend first. There are much worse things than a broken heart.

If Gene or Tony or both ask you or want to tell you something important, listen. Trust them as much as you’re able. Ask questions – we’re good at that, aren’t we? There’s a reason that we’ve kept them around.

There are going to be other people in our life that remind you of Gene, for both his good and bad sides. Remember what you saw in him, and how freaking good we are at reading people, when you realize who they are. We chose the name Rescue for a reason, even if we didn’t really know why at the time.
